Thomas Heywood Humber, Corporal T/106795
This postcard was sent to number 12 The Avenue, Bentley from a Japanese Prisoner of War camp by Thomas Humber, who previously resided at the same address.
Despite Tom's positive message his family were informed not long after that he had died of dysentery in that awful place.
Corporal Thomas Heywood Humber of the Royal Army Service Corps died on the 7th of July 1943 aged 33 years. He was buried at Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery in Myanmar.
Pictured below are both sides of the postcard followed by a photo of his war grave.

I enjoyed reading this but having read through it quickly it appears that there is no mention of those who served and returned home . I ony thought of this as the Memorial in Scotter , where Grandad Stutting came from , includes such detail and it is on the Parish website . My Great Uncle Ernie served in WW1 and Uncle Ernie served in WW2 , both of them thankfully returned alive . Another Uncle , married to my Mum's sister , also returned . Grandma Stutting had a brother Oliver Womack who served in WW1 and returned . A shame if service cannot be recognised . There must be plenty of them , hopefully .
