Arksey Cemetery A - M

Arksey Main Cemetery

 The Project

Arksey Cemetery lies to the south side of Station Road. Filled mostly with 20th century memorials, this is the main burial place for Bentley and Arksey residents.

The purpose of this project is to provide information for genealogists and those interested in local history, as well as families searching for family graves.

Some of the older memorials are now in a dilapidated state, and may not survive much longer, therefore I feel it is important to record as many of them as I can, while they can still be read.

The cemetery contains a huge number of graves, and to record them all would take many months. Therefore I have concentrated on the older sections, A1 and A2, and a selection of those in sections B, C, D, E, and F, with just a few from other sections (see map below). Plot number, where known, are listed alongside names, in brackets.

If you would like to submit a memorial photo for inclusion, then I would be happy to add them, just email a good resolution photo to the address below, providing a transcription if necessary, and also section and plot number if known. Please ensure your family's agreement before submitting.

If anyone objects and requires a record to be removed from this page, or to send your submissions, please email me at:

arkvillhistory@yahoo.co.uk.

For Arksey Old Cemetery and Church Graves, please visit sister-site Arksey Village, A History.

Locating A Specific Grave

I am often contacted in the hope that I might be able to locate specific graves for people. While this has not always been possible, I am now in possession of some cemetery records. I have plot maps for sections A to N, and names for the plots in sections A, B, C and L. Use the contact form at the top right of this site if you wish me to look up a plot.

Anyone wishing to find the whereabouts of graves I don't have records for can contact Doncaster's Rose Hill Cemetery and Crematorium. By completing an online form and paying a fee (currently £26), they will be able to give you a plot number and directions for finding it. Follow the link below to complete the form.

Cemetery Map

The cemetery is divided into the sections as in the plan above. Older graves are to be found at the western end, starting in section 'A'. Plot numbers are typically given with the section letter first, followed by the plot number, e.g. 'A100'.

List of Memorials

The graves are listed A - Z, and include an image of each one. Missing information is replaced with a bracketed question mark. Information which is not visible on the photo and has been sourced elsewhere is in square brackets.

Continues in Arksey Cemetery N - Z

  1. Photographing these monuments before the writing finally fades is a lasting tribute to the people buried at Arksey. I hope you are able to continue with this and maybe later record the older ones in the rest of the Cemetery where there are many people of local interest buried. Thank you for doing this. It is a mammoth task.

    1. Hi, thank you for your comments. You may be interested to know that I have also surveyed and recorded all the readable memorials in Arksey Old Cemetery and the church yard. The main cemetery is far too large an undertaking for me to cover it all, I have recorded many of the older memorials and may extend my coverage to some of the other notable memorials in time. See my sister site, Arksey Village, A History for more cemetery records.
